Introduction to SELF Care Empowerment

Rule number one of SELF Care Empowerment is you must take at least one really deep breath before any action!  So before we begin, let’s take that deep breath so that we are really present and can get the most out of this post.  P.S.- I took a few more than one to begin writing..... 

I am all about SELF Care Empowerment, it is what I believe allows each of us to live a life the way we choose.  Let’s look for a minute at what the words actually mean according the world wide web: 

Self – is defined as a person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others;  

Care – the provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance and protection of someone or something;   

Empowerment - authority or power given to someone to do something. 

I’d also like to add another definition, that of powerless - without the ability, influence or authority.  One thing I know for sure is, no matter what’s on the web, we all have our own interpretations of what words mean based on our experiences and thoughts.  For this post I’d like to focus on the definitions above so we are all on the same page. 

Wonder why I am spending so much time defining SELF Care Empowerment?  I believe it is the single most important state of being required to really embrace and enjoy your life, and that most women have limited understanding and experience in how to live in this space. I want all women to feel empowered to take serious care of themselves first so they can stop feeling overwhelmed, under-appreciated and disappointed in areas of their life and show up even more fully for those they care about.    

SELF Care Empowerment is living life on life’s terms, responding to situations in ways that allow you to choose how you want to show up. No longer feeling powerless over situations that are beyond your control. It is actually putting your SELF care above everything so that you can in turn be a positive force and support in the rest of your life and relationships.  It is prioritizing your need for calm and in the present moment thinking and acting, learning how to respond to life instead of reacting to it, it is all about deciding how you want to show up in each moment.   

I have been on this journey for a long time, my caring for others goes back to when I was a small child and started putting the world before myself.  I spent many a year stuck in feelings of resentment, anger, disappointment, despair and just walking around stressed and annoyed as hell at just about everything and everyone. I could easily have a wonderful moment turn sour because “someone did or said something to me”.  That was me giving away my power and that happened because I put myself last on the list of people to care about.   It’s been a long and interesting journey and I want to share what I learned with you about the blissfulness of living a life of SELF Care Empowerment. I hope you will take this journey with me. 

Ready? The three requirements to reach SELF Care Empowerment are simple,  but require commitment and work .

1. willingness to change the way you look at life, 

2. being open to try on and add some new skills and tools, and finally,

3. practice, practice, stumble/fall and practice some more.  

The end result – living and leading a life that you choose, regardless of what is going on around you, AND maintaining healthy and satisfying relationships along the way.
